 | ProcyonHook 1.3 Released on 01-25-2010 by Sion | | | A new version of ProcyonHook is now available - you can pick it up from the downloads section (now available as an FLMM modpack, in addition to the standard installer version), or as an automatic update for existing users, upon connecting to Procyon. This new version of ProcyonHook adds the following enhancements:
- Fully Remodeled Alaska
Alaska is a system that has always been unlocked on Procyon - the trouble though was that there was never any reason to visit it. We've addressed this by locking the Alaska jumpgate to players without ProcyonHook and making significant changes to the system within. Players will now find a normal system complete with worthwhile bases, wrecks, jumpholes, and other assorted points of interest.
- Flawless Cloaking
Cloaking in Freelancer may not be anything new, but cloaking on Procyon certainly is. The Anubis VHF is now outfitted with a cloaking device, which is enabled and disabled via a configurable hotkey that you are able to set in the options menu like any other standard game control. When enabled and fully charged, the cloaking device disables your weapons and shields and begins to drain energy - when your energy is completely depleted it deactivates automatically. This enhancement makes the Anubis a worth while scout ship, and one capable of doing a decent bit of damage if used properly to get the drop on another player... it remains, however, mostly unsuited for every-day combat against VHFs.
- Guardian Enhancement
With the Anubis being given such a hefty enhancement, it seemed unfair to leave the Guardian sitting by itself with nothing to call its own. With that in mind, all Guardians now have an enhanced sensor array, allowing it to detect other players from further away.
With ProcyonHook1.3's additions covered, this is probably a good time to address Procyon's future, so with that in mind I'd like to make a general outline of some of our current plans for future features - though much of it is long term and will require untold amounts of work before it is ready to roll out. So, just what are some of the items on the oft-mentioned to-do list that we have here on Procyon?
- /whois command, used to retrieve information regarding another player on the server. Things like which clan (if any) he is a member of, and other assorted things.
- Addition of alliance/hostility controls to the clan system. Your clanmates already show up green to you in space, with this you'll have the ability to make rival clans appear in space red, and friendly clans appear green.
- Trade events. Instead of a messy dynamic economy implementation, we are exploring the possibility of creating randomly executed trade events that would cause one or more bases to buy or sell specific commodities at significantly higher or lower prices.
- Purchasable upgrades for clan owned systems. Want a nice little boost to your clan member's sensors in your system? Purchase a sensor array! Want to earn a little extra money from your system? Invest in a gas miner to start sucking away at that resource-rich nebula over there.
- Purchasable clan bases. No I'm not joking. Those of you that frequent Omicron Theta in the evening are already well aware of our ability to create new bases, planets, and other assorted solar entities at will that appear in space without any need for a client side modification. While this - more than anything else here - is still extremely far into the future, our research at this point has shown it to be 100% possible. Obviously, only players with ProcyonHook would be able to dock with these bases, but they would be visible to everyone on the server.
And that's not even a quarter of what we have on our list. With that said, work on ProcyonHook1.4 is already under way - Zephyr is already AT work implementing one of our more requested features, which we hope people will enjoy profusely. Until then.
