Procyon Herald - Issue 33: The Battle of Chugoku

Issue 33: The Battle of Chugoku
01-21-2007 03:05

Chugoku.

Dark. Cold. Quiet and ominous.

There was no solar breeze to speak of. Mostly due to the fact there were no solars. Just some jagged, drifting rocks, a few mildly interested Blood Dragons passing by, and a whole lot of darkness. Welcome to the desolate, remote system of Chugoku.

While the distant system of Chugoku is often overlooked, on this night, a veritable armada of Alliance and mercenary ships had assembled, determined to cauterize the bleeding of Alliance systems to the pirate scourge of Procyon. Since their heyday at the Battle of Omega 5, where the rum drenched pirate Brigantines were reduced to praying for salvation, the Alliance had experienced a series of defeats, first at the cardamine-rich interior system of Magellan, and then at the strategic system of Omicron Theta, headquarters of the Scorpions – a Procyon-original clan and home to Admiral Mank, Commander-in-Chief of the Alliance.

As with most system battles of late, the server quickly filled to capacity, and it was pure dumb-luck that your faithful correspondent managed to log on after prying himself away from the wenches at the Freeport 5 bar. Surely, somebody must have been ping-kicked. In any case, your humble scribe proceeded to the target system and was amazed to encounter a fleet that would have put the Spanish to shame in 1588. Upon leaving Kyoto, my Dromedary was engulfed in a Flock of Seagulls, and I ran. I ran so far away. I just ran. I ran all night and day. Double checking to make sure I hadn’t flown into some time-space anomaly which had brought me back to the salad ‘80s, I shrugged and followed the 14 hair-sprayed gulls, and Alliance friends, towards the jump hole to Hokkaido, which Alliance intel had pinpointed as the most likely source of attack. Well, dear reader, Alliance intel proved up to the challenge, and within moments of arriving at the hole, pirates began spilling through with cries of “Death to the lubbers!” and “Send them to Davy Jones’s Locker!” and “Brainzzzz, mmmmmzz brainzzzzz….”.

A frightening sight it was. Nocturnal Zombie alone accounted for 3 confirmed kills, feasting on the brains of Mercenaries Mazem Taim and Paladin, and some other seagull before he himself was dispatched by the business end of MB Kohaku’s guns. In total, the MBs accounted for 3 kills in the first round, adding both Polish Mafia C-64 and yalkara to their kills in Round One. The first round would go to the defenders.

Round Two opened with yalkara’s arrival through the Hokkaido hole. Surprising one of the seagulls, he made short work of the bird and marked his entrance with a burst of feathers. The gulls were not to be handled so easily however, and Round Two saw 5 confirmed kills by the seagulls. The Brigantines Captain managed to vaporize a seagull and the Mercenary Alrick before falling on his own kraken, but the second round was never in doubt. The Alliance won handedly.

Enter Round Three. The pirates once again spilled through the hole from Hokkaido, and once again ran into the amassed fleet of the alliance seagulls. Nocturnal Zombie, their ace from Round One, was immediately cut down. The Brig Captain managed to take out a seagull before Blackhawk and yalkara were slaughtered, but the captain’s luck ran out when the Mercenary Paladin caught him in his sights and let loose a lethal barrage. “ARRR!” the captain screamed. “Ye’ve not seen the last of meeee!!!!”

The Battle of Chugoku was over. After suffering a series of defeats, has the Alliance managed to stop the bleeding? Our reporters caught up with Admiral Mank after the battle. The Admiral, it’s worth noting, never appeared during the battle, and rumours are swirling that he may in fact have been smurfing amongst the pirates, relaying information back to the main Alliance fleet. We cannot confirm this, however.

“The main difference between this battle and Theta was that I was here,” he declared. “Theta was disorganized. Tonight, we fought together as a well organized group.”

The Admiral then went on to state that the Alliance would soon be liberating Omicron Theta from the Tokers. The timing of the attack would naturally depend on when the new rules for system battles were activated, but one thing is certain, dear reader. This war is far from over.

For the Procyon Herald, this is war correspondent Ravenwood, signing off.

There was a fleet of CSGs, can anyone guess which one I was? The Alliance fought well. We executed perfectly, our timing was perfect, and alot of credit has to go to Alliance Executive Office Cougar, from as what I have been hearing has been drilling his men like a Marine Corps Drill Sergeant at Parris Island.

Cougar on 01-21-2007 03:41:56

The Marine Corps has Drill Instructors, the Army has Drill Sergeant.
