Gunther Schmidt, a new recruit to the outlaw gang Red Hessians, was lazily picking his nose while on sentry duty at the forward base of Ronneburg, when he heard a banging on the base door. “Ja?” he asked, peeking his head through the airlock. “Mein lieben! Was ist die Holle die???” Before him were no fewer than 17 class 10 very heavy fighters, pointing no fewer than 100 nomads at his chest. At the head of the armada was Alliance leader Vice_Admiral_Mank. “Open up.”
A short ways away, a similar sized force of pirates, thieves, thugs and other miscreants were carousing their time away, casually tossing mines at each other and smashing empty rum bottles against the exterior walls of Cadiz base, the Corsair fortress in Omega 5. “Arrr! This be livin’!” belched the Brigantines Cap’n. “Far from the pryin’ eyes of the police, and far from those meddling Allince dogs!” Downing the dregs of his tankard, he flung the empty canister away. “ ‘Attack!’, they said. Bah! There be no attack coming, I’ll wager me very own dear Polly! Cutthroat, ye thievin’ whore monger! Fetch me another tankard, blast ye! And tell that misbegotten Reverend to quit lookin’ like I just keel hauled his pet dog! I’m a pirate, damn ye, and pirates drink rum!”
Outside Ronneburg, the Alliance had assembled. Cobalts Cougar, Drake, Viper, Grizzly, Pittbull, Monkey and Hedgehog; Scorpions Wolfhound and Furby; DCR Cardinal, Arkaine’s Leviathan, Luthekar, Exotic_Dancer_Smurf, OmegaX, DeltaX, and EpsilonX. And of course, the Admiral. The order was given, and the fleet moved out from Ronneburg, destined for Cadiz.
“Gideon ye infernal swine! Tell that cretin Cheech to put down his guitar and duel me! There ain’t enough tax in this damned system to fund a lemonade stand!” Around him, the captain was joined by his cohorts in crime, Blake, Cheech, hash, Twisted, Naked_Ninja, Prince Kheldar, Mr.Produceman, Nocturnal Zombie, fellow Brigantines StanTheMan, Neo_Flame, Gideon, Cutthroat and Reverend. Also in attendance were Mercenaries Mazem_Taim, Majurac and Alrick, and lastly the former Immortal Blackhawk, now untagged and flying as an independent gun.
It was Blackhawk who first sighted the Alliance Armada hoving into view. Shortly after 9:40 (EST), he spotted Cobalt Cougar streaking in on his attack run. “Christ!” he cried, hauling back on his throttle and letting loose a barrage of nomad fire. His counter attack succeeded in bringing down the Cobalt leader, but by then it was too late, and the other Alliance ships began pouring in through the breach. Vice_Admiral_Mank caught Avid Toker Cheech in his sights, and with what one can only imagine was pure satisfaction, shot the toker out of the sky.
Five more pirates would fall before the next Alliance pilot, this time Cobalt Grizzly, would be taken out by none other than the Captain himself. But by this point, the momentum of the first round of the battle was definitely on the side of the Alliance. Notwithstanding the death of the admiral, who fell to the Reverend, the Alliance would continue their onslaught. Six minutes after the first round commenced, the last of the pirates (Brigantines Reverend) succumbed to EpsilonX. Ten Alliance ships had fallen to the pirates’ loss of eighteen. The first round went to the Alliance. Of the 8 kills recorded by the pirates in the first round, 4 can be credited to the Reverend. Of the Alliance’s 18 kills, 6 were confirmed by EpsilonX.
The two warring factions retreated to their respective bases to await the signal for Round Two in this best of 5 battle. Admin Sion gave the word, and again, the Alliance Fleet descended upon Cadiz. The admiral was the first to fall, this time by his own hand. As in the First Round, however, the Alliance would seize the early lead, shooting down 7 consecutive pirates. The last shots of Round Two were fired 5 minutes after the round began, when Cobalt Monkey obliterated Nocturnal Zombie. In the second round, 4 Alliance ships fell, to the pirates’ 18. It wasn’t as good as it sounds for the pirates, however, as of the four Alliance deaths, 2 were from friendly fire (Vice_Admiral_Mank who killed himself, and Cobalt Hedgehog, who was killed by Cobalt Pittbull.) Once again, EpsilonX led the Alliance with 5 confirmed kills.
The Alliance once again retreated to Ronneburg to await the signal from the Admins. Outside Cadiz, the dispirited pirates gathered once more. The glum silence was oppressive. Someone suggested that the Reverend lead them in prayer, and the Reverend dutifully obliged his flock, imparting blessings and soothing words of encouragement, imploring them to be brave and not to lose hope, while the last bottle of rum was passed around a final time.
The signal was given. The Alliance was on its way.
Like the two previous rounds, Round Three opened with the destruction of an Allied Ship when Cobalt Cougar was vaporized by Blake. But it all went downhill from there for the pirates. The next 16 consecutive kills were pirate deaths, the last being hash, who fell to the guns of Cobalt Monkey. (Majurac and Cutthroat do not appear to have been present in the final round.)
All told, it was a glorious victory for the Alliance forces, and a difficult defeat for the pirates, who must now relinquish control of Omega 5 to the Cobalts. But the Brigantines Captain does not intend to fade quietly into the night, it would seem. As he led the remnants of his forces from the field of battle, he was overheard swearing a blood oath to avenge his fallen brothers-in-arms. “This is not over,” he vowed. “We shall return.”

 | Blake on 12-03-2006 00:00:38 | | | That was damn fast. That was damn good too. I daresay we underestimated the quality of the pilots that the Alliance had at its call. | | | | |
 | Tolrick on 12-03-2006 00:04:30 | | | Actually, I (Majurac) was present for the final round, I just managed to get myself lost in the minefield for too long to assist. Then no Alliance ships were willing to follow me back in where I could cause some damage. | | | | |
 | EpsilonX on 12-03-2006 10:18:41 | | | Long text is looooooooonnngggggg | | | | |

 | Cutthroat on 12-04-2006 19:23:13 | | | This isnt over. we lost this time but we will win the war | | | | |
 | Vice Admiral Mank on 12-05-2006 05:42:08 | | | The difference in playing styles made the difference. I don’t think 18 ships were too bad for that both sides had 24 hours to prepare, half the Alliance, and about 3/4 of our mercs were not present. That plan we used was put together after the Outcasts embarrassed us, and sent us packing after Tau.
I look forward to the next one, and I believe that the pirates fought very well, although they are not used to that form of combat, as though we are.
