Procyon Herald - Issue 19: Procyon Comes of Age

Issue 19: Procyon Comes of Age
11-12-2006 21:59

Welcome to this special edition of the Procyon Herald! It was a busy week in Procyon, with the server celebrating its first birthday on Tuesday, November 7. To mark the occasion, the server administrators chartered the Orbital Spa & Cruise Luxury Liner Shetland in the Edinburgh system for a private party. Many celebrities were invited to attend the invitation-only event, with the guest list including such notables as Curacao Hilton, Winston Cup champion John Lee Pedimore, legendary bounty hunter Jimmy the Grip, Liberty President Jacobi, LPI Commissioner Gordon, and Ageira president and CEO Will Gaites. Also making an appearance was Admin Morpheus, invited from the Roleplay LV server, and representatives from Monkey Universe. Outcast mob boss and drug lord Miguel Benitez also made a surprise visit, taking time out of his search for his missing son. Benitez graciously offered to donate the casino tables and roulette wheels for this black-tie affair, announcing that all house winnings would be given back to the server for future infrastructure upgrades and maintenance.

As the party was strictly a weapons-free event, Admin Sion was forced to check his right arm at the door, but otherwise, had a fabulous time. “I can’t recall having had a more kick ass evening,” he laughed. “After a year spent chasing cheaters and dealing with name change requests, we all really needed this.” Despite missing his right arm, Sion was nevertheless quite successful at the blackjack tables, quadrupling his money over the course of the night.

Zephyr, meanwhile, spent much of the evening in conversation with don Benitez. “Sure,” he was overheard saying at one point, “you might own the most extensive cardamine distribution network in all of Procyon, but I own the server. So I guess you could say I own you, tough guy.”

Reaper, who is no stranger to cards and was in fact on his country’s national poker team, declined to play more than a few hands. He spent much of the evening in the luxury liner’s engine room, poking about and questioning the chief engineer about which codes were being used, and whether the liner might benefit by the introduction of Teamspeak. Upon returning to the cocktail party, he struck up a conversation with Curacao Hilton who was apparently quite smitten with the programmer. The two were last seen disappearing into one of the liner’s first class staterooms. Reaper, you dog!

Zephon had perhaps the most wild evening of them all, hitting the fine imported champagne and munching on blinis and Kurile caviar. Being an evening to let one’s hair down, Zephon did just that, and at one point decided it would be a fine idea to join the live band on stage, commandeering the mike and blasting out a rocking cover of ACDC’s classic Hell’s Bells.

“I’m impressed,” stated LV Admin Morpheus. “This place has definitely come a long way since the early days. Congratulations!”

“Indeed!” echoed the Monkeys, who by this point in the evening were swinging from the chandeliers. “Not bad for a vanilla server! But who is this Tatsu you’ve sent us? And why can’t we swear around him? Waiter! Garcon! What does a guy have to do to get a banana around here?”

The party carried on until the wee hours of the morning, by which point the Shetland had arrived at its final mooring outside Manhattan. The revelers began to disembark, some more steady on their feet than others. Paparazzi were of course on hand to snap their photos of Procyon’s most rich and famous. Many of the guests would go on to develop wicked hangovers as the day went on, but everyone agreed it was well worth it.

Happy birthday Procyon! For the Herald, this is Ravenwood, signing off.
